I'm in the same, EXACT, position. Ulnar nerve entrapment, both elbows, weightlifting and keyboard. I've had two surgeries on the right/dominant. I'll go to your questions and answer them the best I can based on my personal experiences and research..... 1. Which surgical procedure produces the best results? Research varies which of the five procedures is "best". Neurosurgeons have their favorite and opinion is mixed. I think the submuscular transposition with a medial epicondylectomy is probably the best for someone who will stay active, but it is the most invasive which requires longer healing time and more possible complications. 2. Can you recommend any outstanding neurosurgeons that I can contact? I can give you the name of mine in the Austin, TX area. Picking a good surgeon is probably the most important choice you'll make. The first surgeon who did my first procedure didn't have the experience I'd hoped and it went dreadfully wrong. Email me if you'd like the name of the surgeon who did the second one (which appears to have been a success) 3. Is it possible to get back into weightlifting slowly? I've been back in the gym for three weeks. Surgery was in Oct '03. The key here is to go VERY light initially. The repetative motion with heavy weights (especially bicep curls) can throw the nerve back out of place. 4. How much does the procedure cost? (US dollars) The total cost for my second surgery was around $10,000. Keep in mind that I actually had two separate things done (submuscular transposition and medial epicondylectomy). My out of pocket with insurance was nearly nothing. 5. Have all of you guys experienced good post-surgery results? Again, my first surgery was a disaster. But I think the surgeon screwed up. Second one appears to be a success. But you also have to keep in mind that the extent of nerve damage prior to surgery will have a significant effect on outcome. Mine was extensive and my elbow and some numbness in fingers will never be "normal" again. Good luck and keep us updated!!!
