: You need to reduce the pressure on the median nerve. In my opinion and experience surgery is best, others will tell you massage and other therapies. You need to act before the nerve is damaged for good.

Thanks to everyone for your responses. My nurse practitioner said surgery is a real possibility, but she wants me to get the EMG first. She said what you said about the importance of taking care of this before there is permanent nerve damage.I kept thinking it was no big deal until the pain got really bad. I should know better--I'm a nurse.
