Hi,
I would see another doctor if you can, the way it was explained to me is that you get the numbness first then when the nerve starts getting damaged you get pain. After nerve "damage" the surgery may not be as effective. So I would definilty have someone else check you out. Sounds like you may still be a surgical candadite, but I'm no doctor.
