In Reply to: Is the EMG test different if they are testing for carpal tunnel vs. cubtial tunnel? posted by Lisa on January 26, 2004 at 05:21:23:

: From what little I could find they are. And if that is so, I have reason to believe that the neurologist that performed both of my EMG tests (which were both negative by the way) DID NOT test for cubital tunnel but for carpal tunnel. I even asked her when I went for the second test that they were testing for the right thing, and she said yes. They did the needle test inserted on the top of my hand between my thumb and pointer finger, in the pad of my hand below my thumb and then on top of my arm in 4 spots.

: Now if she were testing my unlar nerve, wouldn't she have tested on the inside of my arm by the nerve?

: I hope someone can answer this, because maybe my negative results were due to wrong testing?

: Anyone?

: Thanks much.

I had a nerve conduction test today. I am 10 weeks out from cubital tunnel surgery. What I had was the test they is similar to an estims treatment, where there is an electric stimulus that makes the nerve respond. There was no needle involved, just the prong thing they touch you with. My arm was tested at the palm in two places, at the wrist, on the forearm in two places and above the elbow in two places.

The good news for me is that the nerve test is normal, the bad news is no one knows why I still have numbness in the arm and fingers.
