Valerie, I had to give up needle work because thats how/when I developed CT.. I have some other things that could have played a part also, but the needlework seemed to be the culprit since I didn't have it prior to stitching all the time.
If you aren't going to give it up, then at least do alot of stretching when taking many breaks from it.. Adam posted good stretches on this board someplace..
