To be honest,I'm not absolutely sure what his qualifications are, but I think the guy was either an intern or a medical assistant of some kind. The stitches were inverted, if you know what that kind is, so the majority of the stitch itself was subcutaneous. The ends came out on the same side of the incision pretty close together, with a teensy loop on the opposing side that you couldnt grab if you had to. Standard scissors weren't really adequate for the job, but I don't know if they keep smaller ones, and didn't get the chance to ask. The swelling at the incision resulted in the knotted ends beind drawn down into the skin some, which made getting the stitch pulled up enough to cut a pain, big time. The guy seemed to know what he was supposed to do, but it didnt quite go like he wanted. Heck, when the steri strips come off, I'll probably try a bit of orajel as a topical anesthetic and dig the darned things out myself with splinter tweezers, I have a couple pairs of those. I dont think he got the whole knot of one of them, and Ive got a nice sharp pair of cuticle scissors that will do nicely. If the one's still knotted and is totally out of sight, I may just leave that one for them to shoot a little local in there and deal with it. They wont touch that without giving me a shot first, let me tell you!! Today was at the high end of my pain tolerance, with all the tugging he did. :( Its still very sore and Im icing it regularly. I'm sure it'll ease off in a day or two, things being tender to begin with making it feel so bad, I'm sure.
