some of the drugs they use for anesthesia are also paralytic drugs that immobilize the muscles - including the ones for breathing. a bit too much and you quit breathing and they have to put in the tube to breathe for you until they counteract the drug that you got a bit too much of. normally, you dont quit breathing, the drug just suppresses normal respirations some, so they "support" breathing with a machine, and youre fine as soon as the drugs wear off. that's my understanding of the anesthesia thing... if it explains anything for you.. |
