I just gradually started using my hand again, being careful to not pick up heavy stuff in the beginning, etc. I did my own work on getting range of motion etc back just by using it. I'd rub the scar area a lot, I guess that helped keep the scaring to a minimum, as I have a very thin scar and minimal scar thickening. I have to feel for the scar to notice it. I guess the PT thing depends on the doctor, etc. I wonder if it would have made a difference?
