My secretary had cervical cortisone shots for exactly the symptoms you described. They helped her for over 2 years. Her actual problem is stenosis and arthritus in the neck. She just had another series of shots, but won't know whether they work for a months or so yet. They could tell her problem from x-rays and an MRI of the upper part of her spine. Changing to an adjustable keyboard helped with her pain, and some other ergonomic adjustments regarding terminal and chair height.

You might ask the neurologist about having an MRI as a diagnostic tool before the cervical shots. Your insurance company might actually require it.

: I have had pain in the left arm region for 10 months now. 6 of those months the pain has been tolerable and was usually brought on my various positions. In July, something happened to my upper left shoulder area and I had excruiating pain in that area going down into the arm and fingers and hand, The pinkie finger became ice cold. The ring finger hurt terribly and also pain on the side of my hand. At times my palms are beat red. Using the computer was hard as the fingertips were very sensitive.

: My EMG;s/Nerve conduction studies were normal. Neurolgist said it could be a variety of things like Ulnar Nerve, brachial, cervical and a combination of things. He also told me that one can have normal nerve tests and still have a ulnar nerve problem. I had a cortisone block in the left shoulder area but this did not help. I saw a hand doc and he said it was not carpal and brushed me out the door. Dic wants more cortisone shots in the cervical now to rule this out.

: Has anyone had this type of pain and had Ulnar/Cubital nerve problems. Whatever my problem, the doc seems it was caused by Repetitive strains.
