In my case I had an appointment at the hospital with a surgical nurse the week before, where she did all the required pre-surgery tests. She also told me exactly what to expect, what time to come, and when I would be able to be released and when to stop eating and drinking. If you're going to a hospital, you may have some similar type of appointment.

: Will they make me get into a hospital gown or can I stay dressed with my own clothes but wear something short sleeved? I can't imagine trying to fumble around with clothes afterwards!

I would plan on changing to a gown. They want to be able to easily be able to monitor you, and be able to do recussitation if necessary. If you need help with buttons, a nurse or whoever is in recovery with you can help. Pants with an elastic waist are much easier for a few days, and pull over sweaters or t-shirts.

: Will my hand be in a splint of sorts or just bandaged afterwards?
Mine was just bandaged, but I had open release.

: Also, how long will it take before I can drive again?
My doctor told me 3 days. It kind of depends on which hand, and whether you have an automatic or manual. What was really hard for me was actually turning the key in the ignition, because twisting strength just wasn't there at first.
