CTS/Cort izone shot

I went to theorthopaedic surgeon today and he gave me a cortizone shot. My pain was so severe in my wris t that it radiated into my left shoulder. The cortizone shot has made my left hand extremely numb and has not relieved the shoulder pain. Does this all sound like CTS and will the numbness in my hand go away??? He gave me the cortizone shot in my wrist, so why is my hand completely numb now and why isn't the pain in my shoulder going away?
